Making Use Of A Skybox When You Don’t Pay For Sky

Let’s face it if you are no longer paying for Skytv and only have free to air channels you will not have much to watch navigating through a bunch of channels you don’t have it not what you call an entertaing evening looking at Tv. I am not a big fan of Paid TV Services or any TV really since the Internet can provide much better and more entertaining programing than old media outlets, But before you go buying a new hd or external drive note that I Used the hard Drive From Skybox as a Media Storage Hard Drive. The HD box is not the easist thing to get open and the HD is burried below lot’s of Plastic Parts that were never desing to be easily removable. So if you are Going to take the HD from your Skybox remember that puttting the settop box back together is not going to be an easy task.

The hd on some sky hd boxes can be 500gb or more and since I am not a big fan of tv I pulled apart my skybox and put the hd in my computer then formated it to FAT because it’s compatible with all file systems.Next I Put all My Media on the HD and it can be read from either the Main OS on My Computer or be read by any Live CD I put on My Computer.

All my photos, Music and Movies copied to the Extra Hard Drive can now be easily accessed and I do not have to worry about an Os failure destroying my Media Collection.When you place all  Photo’s, Movies and Music on the HD remember to  Enabled Sharing on the HD

Now Incase of emergancy I can use Geexbox to browse my Media Files Should it happen that my computer has no operating system I have a Live CD of Geexbox a linux distro dedicated to multimedia so at least I can listen to my Music on my Computer

If you can’t afford a top of the range tablet you may need to look into budget tablet computers.


Many believe that these tablets are what you need to browse the internet in future untill the next piece of crap gadget comes about. Go buy one because you need it and it will look cool or you could get some sense and get a decent desktop where you can do much more with more power.I see tablet computers as Ideal for people on the move before when I lived in Germany I did much rail and bus travel the tablet computer would have been useful then. But since I have returned to Ireland I have absolute no reason to travel anywhere since their are not many places to go and public transport in Ireland is near non existent. If you are a person that finds themselves waiting in stations, public offices, spending much time sitting on trains and buses then a tablet computer may be for you. If you are buying a tablet so you can make status updates in your living room because you are too lazy to turn on a laptop or desktop them go ahead waste your money.
