Only Doing One Thing And Getting Paid Less

In the Documentary Food Inc Watch instantly on your TV! it touches on the topic that companies assign people to jobs with only one task so that they are easier to train and dispensable.  I talk about this because I was once working for an uittzendburo in Holland and landed this packing job for the day, In a food distribution company I did not care much for the Job despite the company allowing it’s employees to see daylight very nice of them since many workplaces don’t.

The job required that I pack paprika not actually a dream job to find but since the distribution center was surrounded by glasshouse containing paprika’s made the job even more boring had I not remembered the labels on the paprika packaging (red peppers) they were like every other brand of paprika I ever looked at in the supermarket except for a few things.

Where and what on Earth were the Peppers in the Greenhouses outside of the building packaged and labeled as ?.

It’s amazing that you do not know where stuff you buy comes from anymore and what people in low paying jobs are doing without knowing the true lies behind the business they work in, Low skill level jobs that only require minimal training are the norm now. If companies hire professional butchers they would have to pay union standard rates, So they make production systems that require minimal human labor training requirements and as they are easier trained the companies know that they do not have to pay them much and it’s easier to find replacements. One of the best ways they do this is to hire staff through employment agencies who treat workers like hookers taking a commission of about 4 times the rate the employer is paying for the staff he is hiring (e.g Company is paying €40 and hour for Agency worker, the employee gets only €8) however it is still cheaper for the company to hire agency staff than hire as an employee directly because of employee taxation rates in Holland for employers.
