Going to Buy a Custom Domain Name For Your Blog
Before you buy a domain name from blogspot remember to learn a little about google apps and alais names for custom domains. Your domain name will be registered with a domain name register and not directly by google they will handle the payment for your domain name and hosting via Google apps. But if you do this you may miss out on the benefits of self hosting your blog. Sure you can create sites with google sites and publish them to your domain name in folders but despite the easy google apps interface the backend of google apps is confusing if you want to change from blogspot to wordpress you will need to goto enorm website domain name register to change your dns records for a start. But if you are comfortable with blogspot blogging software then using the custom domain go ahead. I find it better to go with hostgator and a quick and easy wordpress installation and importing your blogspot to WordPress they will help with the transfer of the domain name also should you want to switch to WordPress later
A Problem with Custom Domain after Mistake in Google Apps
I made a mistake in Google Aps Today and I had to Publish to my Blogspot Address. But when I tried to Republish to my Custom Domain It Said that that Address is Already taken of Course it is Taken it’s My Domain.
Well to Fix it was “Deleting the Domain” alias that I had set and then Republish to the Custom Domain. Finding Help on this was Very hard as I had Gone to maybe 20 Different Blogger help sites And Also Google Aps should have some-kind of Reset to Default in on the display and make it a little easier to navigate as it is quite easy to make a very big mistake in there. Maybe the Next time the Google Bot Visits here it might pick up on this Because I am not Going to Try to E-Mail Google and wait forever for an Answer as they way to busy to Reply to People like me.
Now a Question for you is How did you find your Domain Name Transfer was and have you got all you old links from your Blogspot Domain ? I

Hi Chris,
Very interesting post. Did you buy the Domain via Google (from Go Daddy.com)?
Thanks for buying from Google Apps using Google Checkout! Google Apps will charge your order soon.
well that was in my email
Ok I have gone through this transformation for couple of my blogs and still stuck with one which is the main blog. It has good page ranking and many back links I do not want to loose.
However, for new blogs it was a quite a easy process and just direct the CNAME to www or any other sub domain the blogger blog directly. All the pages and images worked as normal under the new domain name. I bought the domain from godaddy and it give a pretty good control panel to handle all these settings.
Once I have come cross similar issue. Basically you get this if you are trying to use same sub domain name for two different services. For example if you already add the www CNAME for your blog you cannot add another Google service for www (Gmail or any other)
Good luck with Google Applications hope you solve the issue…
It's all ok now thanks for your Information SjAy
The whole Problem Began Because Webmaster Tools has Outdated Information.
HI,
Are all the stats that used to come with blogspot, would be available now as well. Also in case the template used for blogspot was some custom one, how much impact would it have when we use the custom domain ?
Hello Anad
I am not sure about blogspot stats transfering to your new domain name as there is no export feature. I had been using clicky analytic s when I made the switch to a custom domain name from blogspot as the blogger stats were not available at the time I switched from my blogspot blog to my own domain name.Having a custom domain name has many advantages like a more professional looking email address you @yourdomain.com not someone@gmail or hotmail.com.You will be also able to create subdomains and build websites with google sites but if you are unsure about picking the correct keyword for you domain name wait a while before buying a custom domain
