How To Save Bandwidth If You Have A Download Quota

Ideas for Saving Bandwidth with your Internet Connection

Many Internet service providers set download limits on customers here are some ways that you can limit the amount of data you download from the Internet onto your computer so you do not exceed your download quota for the month. Some of them are quite straightforward and others are for extreme bandwidth saving.

Download your favorite Videos

If you have a favorite video that you watch nearly everyday on a video sharing site why not just download it to your hard drive instead of wasting bandwidth watching it online everytime in the long run you will save much bandwidth because everytime you watch a video it will have to be downloaded from your I.S.P

Disable Images from Autoloading

Every image that loads from every page you visit needs to download this costs you bandwidth and also page loading time if the website is not correctly designed although it may sound extreme it is worth thinking about especially if you are using the Internet on your smartphone.

Use Google D.N.S

Instead of using your I.S.P ‘s DNS servers you can switch to Google D.N.S this is not only less bandwidth costly but also a safer way to browse and view web pages online.And much faster as the pages are cached from the Google servers

Use a Text only Browser

Ok these browsers are quite geeky but are very fast when you get used to them.Try links or links2

Turn off Automatic Updates

Updates can sometimes download without you knowing and these updates are more than often quite large at times.

Remove old programs you do not use anymore

Not only are these programs taking up hard drive space and slowing down your computer but also as above with Automatic Updates these programs will ask to be updated and require to download these updates that will cost you bandwidth.

Group Policy in XP Reserves your Bandwidth

If you use Windows you may not be aware that mircosoft by default reserves 20% of your Bandwidth for Updates this will also help speed up your connection. Just hit your start menu and select run type gpedit.msc and find the following .

Local Computer Policy –>Computer Configuration –>Administrative Templates –>Network –>QOS Packet Scheduler –>Limit Reservable Bandwidth.To read more about Gpedit.msc and your Internet connection read Boost Your Internet Speed By GPEdit.

Answer Facebook Comments By Email

Everytime you post a comment on Facebook and someone replies you will get an Email notification depending on your Email prefrences in Facebook. But if you are to Load Facebook eachtime  Someone Replies to a popular discussion you will be wasting much bandwidth instead of going to Facebook to reply just reply to comments via Email this will save reloading  Facebook each time saving you some of your download quota.

Change the Font Size in WordPress Blog Posts

Changing the font size of your WordPress blog post can lead to better visitor interaction with your blog content.Using tiny fonts on your blog is making your content look small and you widgets look large as a blogger I prefer people to interact with my content and not gadgets in the sidebar.Tiny fonts are hard to read some say zoom in and out but many visitors to your site will not know about the shortcuts to zoom in and out on their webbrowser.  If you are like Myself I find that the Article Content font size on most blogs are most too small so small that sometimes I will not bother reading the article because I have to strain my eyes to read the article. Although I have quite good eyesight I do nt need to wear glasses but that could change after a few years sitting in front of a computer.  I hate having to strain my eyes to read blog posts just because the theme uses tiny fonts so small that you would thing you are reading a contract for a mobile broadband provider .Many think by using Heading 1.2,or 3 are a way to increase font size in blog posts but these headings have another meaning to Search Engines.The Proper Way to change the size of the Fonts is to look at your Style Sheet some themes use Style.php in this file look for

body {
margin: 0;
background-color: ;
font-family: ;
font-size: 11px;
color: ;

In this example the font size is 11 which is way too small for most people reading blogs.In my Blog I have changed the font to a larger size 16 because I edited the above lines to look like this.

body {
margin: 0;
background-color: ;
font-family: ;
font-size: 16px;
color: ;

I think this font size tweak in your WordPress theme is especially important if the visitors to your website or your targeting is at older age groups or pensioners who will have problems reading tiny fonts which leads to lack of understanding of your content.There are also many other benefits to changing the size of the fonts on your blog for a start your content will look larger than it is , Making your banner ads look more appealing your readers will not see tiny fonts and big ads on your blog content.This tweaking of your Font size will help you blend your ads into your content much better resulting in bigger profits from your blog.
