Time is one Investment, That you need to input much of when blogging, So as technology changes you may need to also invest in hardware and devices to keep your blogging up to date.
But sometimes bloggers are spending hours writing disposable content, And this time might be better used in more permanent content creation or learning things that might help them in the future.
Each day bloggers spend hours looking up details on tech specs for smartphones and other gadgets. But is this time a waste and what is the long term value of the content you have been researching. You have to think of yourself as an employee of your blog and not the boss when you are creating content. Now what does this boss want does he want “A few quick bucks that will cover the costs” or maybe he wants something with a more longstanding value.
Now while we are on the whole boss thing let him ask you another question. How much extra have you made since buying a smartphone for blogging productivity tasks. Did you earn the cost of that smartphone back yet or even a fraction of it and do you really need it. People go out and buy things like smartphones with the hope they will be more productive but spend most of their time on them configuring the devices. Sure there are people that can use smartphones productively but I think many are not making even a fraction of their return on the investment they paid for the device.
Here is something to think about for a moment. Last year Two guy’s each got a sum of money to expand their website and were told to buy something with it and come back in a year and tell them about what they have learned and how they use the item they bought.
The first guy went and bought the latest smartphone and the other guy paid for a course to help him improve his web development skills. So the time came about that the big question was asked “How are you using the product or service you paid for last year today?”
The first guy replied, Well not that often I found that the technology has moved on a little and many of the apps I was using are no longer supported, The battery life is down to less than 10 hours and as it is I have to disable sync. I can still use it for social networking but I don’t really make that much from it actually I don’t see much social networking referral traffic in my stats.
Then the second guy was asked what he did with his money, He grinned and said well I am not that tech savy but knew I had to develop my site and looked into outsourcing some of my tasks. First I got a logo designed although I can use the software I can’t make anything that looks fantastic as I am not the Artistic type, I paid for a few articles with a writing service and I learned a little about Google Adwords and online advertising alternatives to adwords. I then used the rest for an advertising campaign and here is your money I don’t really need it anymore as I make that each month many 5 times over.
