Many Bloggers Choose to Jump on the Bandwaggon when a New Product or a Big News Stories hit the Headlines. But is this what your readers want to read since they know the Stories and Information from the Populor Blogs you Should be trying to Find News your Readers do not Know yet or Try to find Sub Niches on the Topics that Many of your Readers might Not Know Yet.
The A-listers are regularly writing about the latest iPhone application so you should not write about the Product Directly instead of Writing about the iPad’s write about Carry Cases for iPads.Mainly Because with the A-listers being your competition you do not stand much chance against them because they are written by Teams also they are given the inside information on products that they write about in order to promote them.
Being sick of hearing about iPhone applications and iPads as like many I can’t afford an iPad, iPhone as for the pod a normal mp3 player suits me fine.It is not just the cost of the phone itself but the hidden costs within the contract you need in order to get the phone in the first place
Even I could afford an iPhone I would not buy one because I would rather invest my Money in something more useful like a Good Desktop . Next year the linux versions of ipads will be coming out on the Market and maybe I might buy one of those in 3 years time for now I do not want to hear anymore about these yuppie toys.
If you take a look at your stats and see what kind of hardware your visitors have they are mostly still running windows xp and using 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 800 resolutions .This is the Market topics you should be concentrating on. Windows Xp and Vista have many problems that can be Blogged about which would be much more helpful to your visitors to read about I would write about myself but I stopped using windows last year that is why I started blogging because I had too much free time on my computer since I was not trying to get it to function Correctly all the Time.
This is one of the problems that many bloggers face when trying to sell electronics on a blog they pick the most expensive items and try to flog them off where if they carefully choose some cheaper products the same goes for clickbank products if you are into Affilate Marketing on your blog do not pick the $97 products because it is simply too much for most people to pay picking the smaller priced products will mean that people will not be so reluctant to buy the product if they need it. Because want and need are 2 things that many forget about we think we want something when all we need is something to do the Job.

Well, I partially agree with you I think it all depends on your readers and the niche in which you’re operating.
If you are operating in MMO niche and start writing about iPads just because others are also writing, then I can see it backfiring.
But if you are in tech/gadgets domain and as long as you can deliver entertaining posts quickly, your readers should appreciate it.
My 2 cents…

The Important thing is not to Drift off Topic just Because it is a Current Trend many Do this Also with Google trends and they use it as a reason to write blog posts but it can backfire if it is totally unrelated to the blog topics. If you are a Good writer you can write about anything on your blog because you will know how to make that Topic fit into your Blog sadly like many I have yet to reach that level of Writing
