Chrome Error 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

When trying to access websites in Google chrome it is sometimes possible that there is server maintance or the webmaster is just making adjustments to the site but there can be other reasons that you get error code 118 in Google chrome.

There is Fast and easy way to fix Chrome Error 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT) :   The operation timed out.No downloads are need as some people claim in order to sell rouge software to computer users that think there is something seriously wrong with their browser or computer. This only means that the Website you are trying to Access is Down possibily the Server just Rebooting or they could be Altering the Page that you are Trying to Access another possibility is that the website is blocked by a firewall configuration or the administrator of the network does not want you accessing the site, Many network admins like to block access to social networking sites for example.

First Try using another Browser and if you have the same Error in other Browsers Firefox for example gives a message The connection has timed out if the website you are trying to reach is unavailable . I would not worry too much about this Problem because it’s mainly just a temporary problem mostly because the website is just doing some maintenance or as exceeded  it’s bandwidth.

If you can’t access other websites then it could be a problem with your connection or your network administration settings.

It’s possible that gmail is firewalled or that the ip address is blocked I can think of no other possible explanation,Apart from trying to load it in basic html mode

This error is usually associated with the firewall either on your computer or via the modem/router. I was able to fix this problem by logging into my Modem and setting up a port filter for the firewall to allow outbound and inbound used by the website failing to load.

A network admin can do this for you (if you have one either at your work, etc) or you can do this on your home network by looking up your modem model on-line and following the instructions.

Post is not really that helpful and should not be specifically relating to Chrome but browsers in general.

Only chrome is giving me this error, but Ie and FF work ok, strange Chrome is getting timed out but other work ok.

I think its a MS issue.

Hello,

I try to log in my college website daily, and at the same times everyday I cant not open the site from the country I am in. No browsers work with me and none will open the site. Friends of mine have opened the site no problem, im the only one having problems with it.

Can’t connect at any browser. My computer is connected to the router as well as my dad’s. But my dad’s connection is working just fine as well as my brother’s wireless connection with his laptop. It seems like my computer is the only one having problems with the connection. Though we all share the same network in our house. Help me plwweeeaaasseee.:(

Can you connect via a Wired connection if so do you still have problems loading pages in your Browsers. If the Wired connection works then it could be a problem with the configuration of your wireless card

Try this (it worked for me anyway)…

UNINSTALL GOOGLE CHROME COMPLETELY, THEN RE-INSTALL IT.

NOTE: Doing this will also uninstall any Chrome Apps you installed (TweetDeck, AdBlock, etc.) so make a note of which extensions you want to re-install. The good news is, your bookmarks will remain intact. Good luck!

This is a good tip for anyone that notices that chrome is becoming sluggish as after chrome is installed for some time it becomes very bloated. Thanks for the reminder 22giantes

HI,
I faced a similar error last week,I was not able to download attachments from gmail, was trying to diagnose it & solve it ,I read a lot about this error.I could not find the exact reason, but I solve it simply by uninstalling google chrome and again reinstalling it. I think some virus had jacked up my IP address. IP release & IP did not helped me solve the issue nither removing google chrome form firewall settings…
I hope this might help some one…
Cheers Njoy….
