Many webmasters concentrate on Alexa page rank, but they should be thinking a little more about the audience data and not the Alexa rank itself.
There was something that I noticed about my Alexa stats that was a little strange, the Alexa data claims that my visitors are mostly women aged 55-65 which I did not know I was my Target traffic as i am not targeting any age group or gender with this blog.
The problem is that because I get much traffic from adgitize visitors who are only there for a short time in order to get the click points so I can’t include them as Actual readers of my blog as the average time on site for an adgitize referral is about 0.00 seconds so they must be speed readers.
So how do I know who is visiting my site and get real traffic stats or can I exclude certain referral sources of traffic from my Alexa data. I could place a poll on my site but, who answers to blog polls and also do you think if these stats are true that women are going to admit that they are in this age group, if they can get away with lying about it, because we know all women stop having birthdays after 21.
How do you feel about you Alexa audience data and do you think it is correct ? or do you even check your audience data.

I don’t care much about age groups or gender, but I do enjoy looking at the Traffic Rank and watching it get better and better… I’m going to check it now…
Alexa says my audience is 18-24, Male (Which I find odd as well), with Children, only Graduate School, and is browsing from work. lol. WTF? I just want to get in the US top 100,000. I’m close, but not yet… :)
I do enjoy the alexa rank bit. But I am not sure about its statistics. I do not think that you can really check who is visiting my blog. Even Google Analytics dose not have such feature. You can see the geo stat but age and gender of the people who is visiting i don’t know. Closest I can think is Alexa is using it’s tool bar and people who logged in to the Alexa account and record their details under your website when someone visit your website. That is not accurate.
But still I enjoy the ranking. I wanna get above 100,000 as well. Yea
Well I think it is because most Alexa users are Bloggers who wish to increase traffic rankings on Alexa and Google Page Rank,My own Alexa Toolbar was not Working for some time with my Browser so my rankings could be a little higher because it is based on the amount of users with the Toolbar installed like google page rank. But Traffic Data Gathering Tools like Alexa and Quantcast are only used by marketers, because what normal Internet users have the Alexa Toolbar Installed.
You’re right. I don’t have either installed. The only toolbar I have installed is the Google Toolbar. I like more space for the web!
that exactly what I mean. Rawhider I agree with you. I like more space for the web as well. As I am using chrome I do not use any of the tool bars. So comparing to the Google Page rank Alexa rank is not that accurate.
But I noticed that if you use the Alexa widget in your blog it is affecting the Alexa rank. I can see the rank goes up and down as the number of traffic I get to my blog. But still I am not going to depend on the rank or the statistics it shows about the users age group or gender.
I never believe any of those stats anyway. The only stat that really matters is: Are you making money? lol
to me some of Alexa stats’s data do not in accordance with common sense.
that a good one Rawhider. Statistics can prove anything but what really matters am I making money from the blog.
The thing is if those stats are true I could be looking more into this market because it is every marketers question, who is visiting my site ? and what can I sell them ?.In the mean time I will just try to get in the Top 1000000 sites.
I just subscribed to your RSS feed, not sure if I did it precisely though? Good article by the way.Looking through My Alexa Stats I have yet to Find an Age Group or even a Gender I can Target. Alexa Provides Some Valuable Information but Only Webmasters have the Toolbar Installed meaning this Information is Only Correct to a Point.
